Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

Waterbury, Vermont – August 31, 2010

Police say a taxi driver was drunk on the job. Waterbury police say passengers called for help early Sunday morning, claiming their taxi driver seemed more drunk than they were. Police arrested Michael Weber, 42, of Cambridge, after a breath test showed he was more than twice the legal limit. He was cited to appear in court next month.

Weber was employed by Blazer Taxi Cab at the time of the incident.

Greyhound Bus Station Relocated to Airport

Saturday, August 28th, 2010

My apologies, I am running a little behind on this, as the move was made on 1 May of this year, but the Burlington Greyhound Stop and Station counter is now located at the north end* of the Burlington International Airport terminal.  Greyhound is situated in the former Budget auto rental counter, the last on the left.  An indoor sitting area is available  just across the aisle from the Greyhound counter, near BTV’s newest baggage turnstile.  Wi-Fi is available.

* excepting one, simply enter any 1st floor airport entrance, turn left and walk to the end of the terminal

Pssst!  Hey Buddy, over here(:

If it’s not too much trouble, CC: or BCC: us at:

Too, should you have an undesirable or questionable experience, please report it! Otherwise, and I cannot emphasize this enough, subsequent unsuspecting passengers will receive the same treatment from that Operator, or Company*.  However, your effort will be one significant piece, in a bureaucratic chain of evidence -perhaps the first, perhaps the last straw- which will ultimately fix that Operator because the Administration of Burlington Int’l Airport is keeping count.  Thank you, the Ed.

* a company culture expectation, perhaps?!  It happens.

Aero Submarine

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

4 Feb, 2010

Now this sounds like a blast!

Investor’s Business Daily reported Richard Branson’s Virgin Limited Addition firm has developed a new class of 3 person winged submarine that can fly down to depths of 36,000 feet using the downward lift of the wings rather than the traditional ballast method.

Should you have $25k for week’s use of a Necker Nymph, plus $88K for the accompanying luxury catamaran, we suspect, there’s some really unique fun awaiting you.

Airline Passengers Bill of Rights

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

In the flood of media information that has nothing to do with your life, perhaps you missed the news about the new Airline Passengers Bill of Rights the U.S. Congress has been taking the credit for.

Whatever your situation -whether you are a jaded frequent flyer or merely the occasional victim- you owe yourself to stop by FlyersRights.org to learn about all the new resources and options available to flyers.  The big splash being flyers must be allowed off an airliner after 3 hours of non flight … but there’s more.

Should you care to hear interviews with two of the heroines who provided sustained impetus for the enactment of the Airline Passengers Bill of Rights, simply follow the link option below you find most suitable.

Access the on demand archives or download the podcast. Either instance will require choosing Jan., 2010, followed by selecting hours 2 and/or 3, of the 19 Jan.(011910 +2 or 3, designating the program hour).

Both interviews require perhaps 90 minutes, the latter 30 minutes in hour 3 being devoted to Muslim issues as represented by a Muslim woman whose carry-0n containing multi-generational family jewelry disappeared while in airline custody.  Both ladies are well worth listening to, especially if you want to be inspired by a story of common people achieving uncommon results (which should benefit us all!!).

Beware Online License Renewal Fraud, Vermont DMV

Saturday, August 29th, 2009

Montpelier – As of this Wednesday past, the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles announced the names of a couple of fraudulent web sites intent on separating Vermont driver license holders from their cash.  In essence, a couple of fake sites were set up in order to collect credit card information of those wishing to renew their Vermont Drivers License online.

When you want to do business with our DMV utilizing the internet, accept no substitutes: www.dmv.state.vt.us.

For tips on information security, visit the Vermont Information Security Web site at itsecurity.vermont.gov.

We’re not going to bother with the names of the crooked sites, but we do tip our hat in thanks -first & foremost- to the observant citizen(s) who enlightened DMV of this scam; who thereafter spread the warning!

Taxi Driver Expelled from Burlington Airport

Monday, August 17th, 2009

August 15th, 2009

Mr Louis LaRose, owner of Everywhere Taxi, and of late, driver of J.J. Transit and/or Queen City Transit vehicles, was expelled by Airport Police from Burlington International Airport today.  Reports have it that Mr LaRose was written up* and suspended from the Airport for the remainder of the day because he flew into another rage.  This while confronting a Vermont based contract carrier about “stealing from him”.  He was however, not cited for Disorderly Conduct.

* internal airport documentation

This transpired on the drop off curb of the airport, with members of the public, including the passengers* the contract carrier was discharging, present.  If you’ve never seen Mr LaRose in action, well, it’s doubtful you’d call it a treat but it is a spectacle in unprofessionalism worthy of being a poster child candidate for anger management.  Especially with his trademark brand of intimidation which involves invading his objects breathing space by towering over them while barking and bellowing in a manner a fog horn would envy.

* the stolen goods in question perhaps, and how does that work exactly?

This is not new behavior for Mr LaRose.  Simply rarely documented, though periodically witnessed by startled bystanders and of course, by airport taxi operators, Ambassadors and presumably, seasoned BPD Officers, among whom it is the stuff of legend.  However, in June this year, rather than facing an administrative hearing, Mr LaRose voluntarily accepted a 24 hour suspension from the Airport following a May 4th incident where among other things he stalked up the airport taxi queue sidewalk a few steps behind a female operator a third his size.  Alternately berating her loudly and quietly taunting her along the way.  Subsequently, he confessed to, “calling her bad names”.

She, and others, state Mr LaRose used multiples of not one, but two “C-words”, among other “bad names”.  The concern whispered in some quarters is that Mr LaRose gets so enraged, that he doesn’t actually recall what he is saying, nor perhaps doing, when in one of these rages.

It remains to be seen if any additional sanctions will be added to this wrist slap, “remainder of the day” suspension.

The moral of this story?  File a complaint, do not remain silent when: you believe you are overcharged, have suffered intimidation, or otherwise witnessed unprofessional behavior like the above.

At the very least, PLEASE register your compliant herein with us on BTV Taxi News.  In the course of time, your effort will help us make the case for elevating the standards in order to obtain, and/or retain, the privilege of a taxi queue permit franchise.
